Neck Pain & Neck Injuries

Neck pain is a very common problem. This is due to the delicate and sensitive structures located in the neck that are exposed to everyday abuse and stresses.

Chiropractors are specially trained to identify, treat and manage neck back conditions through a number of methods. Treatments are safe, gentle, natural and very effective and are designed to correct the underlying issue not just treat the pain.

The majority of neck pain problems arise from one of two things:

-an accident resulting in damage to the structural integrity or tissue of the neck.
-prolonged exposure to incorrect stresses on the neck or spine – often due to poor posture or improper body movements

Other common causes of neck pain include:

  • incomplete rehabilitation of past injuries
  • lack of proper and periodic spinal alignments
  • presence of cervical spine subluxations
  • whiplash-type injuries
  • improper workstation setup
  • poor posture
  • prolonged sitting
  • prolonged use of non-ergonomically designed equipment
  • excessive repetitive neck motions
  • improper telephone techniques
  • excessive mental stress
  • physical inactivity
  • poor diet and nutritional practices

In most instances listed above, the vertebrae of the spine has become misaligned and are no longer properly or optimally positioned which causes pain and discomfort. The most effective way to treat spinal misalignment is through spinal manipulation or adjustment to realign the spine and to help regain normal motion. In addition, spinal adjustments relieve pain and reduce muscle spasm.

Another method of treatment for neck pain is to teach patients proper habits as they relate to posture. Maintaining good posture at all times is key to preventing and re-aggravating neck pain. Other manual treatments include massage, trigger point therapy, acupressure and low back stabilization exercises. Your chiropractor will recommend a customized treatment plan based on your specific condition.
