Knee Pain FAQs

Knee pain can prevent you from doing what you love or even simple daily tasks. You may struggle to move around as once did because of knee pain. At Life Force Chiropractic in Glen Burnie, we treat a variety of health conditions with natural and effective chiropractic care. Let’s look at some of the questions that we run into regarding knee pain.

.

What Causes Knee Pain?

To explain knee pain, you must understand that your knee has an intricate system of soft tissue and bone, which allows it to move while supporting your body weight. For instance, you have ligaments that control the stability of your knee. Behind your patella is cartilage that provides cushioning and allows your knee to move. Repetitive stress or an injury can damage this tissue and lead to pain. In addition, it is a common location for sports-related injuries. The knee is also a prime area for arthritis to occur, particularly osteoarthritis, which is the form of arthritis caused by wear and tear.

How Is Knee Pain Diagnosed?

You will come to our office and fill out a medical history form. It will include information about any conditions or surgeries you have had in the past. We will want to know about any medications you are currently taking as well.

We will then ask you a series of questions regarding your knee pain. We will want to know when it began and the severity of it. We will also ask questions about any other symptoms you have in addition to wanting to know when your symptoms are the worst.

Part of the examination will also include us taking a look at your knee for signs of swelling. Our chiropractor will gently press on different areas of the knee to look for swelling. We will ask you to move your knee in different ways to gauge your range of motion.

How Is Knee Pain Treated by a Chiropractor?

The chiropractor may recommend treatments you can use at home to ease your pain and discomfort, such as hot and cold therapy or compression. Furthermore, while you are in our office, we may realign your knee joint if a misalignment is causing pressure on the soft tissue.

Another treatment we may use is chiropractic exercises. For this treatment, we will recommend exercises that work the soft tissue in your knee. This will draw more blood to the area to promote healing. It can help you regain function and flexibility while soothing your sore muscles. Lifestyle changes are often part of the treatment plan as well. You don't have to suffer from knee pain.
